It is known that The shores of Lake Garda are rich in natural wonders, historical sites, and breathtaking viewpoints.
One of these is undoubtely the Rocca di Manerba:it is an important archeological area and a strategic point where you can enjoy an amazing view on Lake Garda.
Did you know that the Rocca is also the perfect destination for a family day trip dedicated to sport and culture? Find out more!
Located in the Riserva Naturale Orientata della Rocca e del Sasso, the Rocca di Manerba takes its name from the remains of a medieval castle (precisely known as “Rocca”) which are surmounted by a large Latin cross.
The Rocca is placed on a rocky promontory overlooking the lake and it is just one of the attractions of the area. The so-called “pianoro del Sasso” is also renowned for the presence of some traces of settlements dating back to the Mesolithic period.
In fact, it is not surprising that at the foot of the Rocca there is the Museo Civico Archeologico della Valtenesi, a structure that collects and displays many naturalistic finds and historical evidence of ancient prehistoric settlements.
But where is the Rocca di Manerba?
This interesting site is on the western shore of Lake Garda. By taking the state road to Salò, exit in Manerba and continue towards Solarolo.
The site is very well marked so it is easy to reach the unpaved parking lot which is right below the peak.
The parking is the starting point for your adventure at the Rocca di Manerba. In fact, from here you can only proceed on foot!
There are several routes to reach the Rocca, we suggest two of them.
The first one starts right from the unpaved parking lot. It's an easy walk suitable for the whole family. The slope is gentle, and the path is slightly unpaved. In about 20 minutes, via stairs and wooden bridges, you'll reach the top of the promontory. On clear days, this route allows you to admire the beautiful surroundings of Manerba. It is the best option for kind. The path is accessible with strollers.
The second route follows a circular path and is more challenging. It takes about 2-3 hours and includes several stairs and steep sections. We do not recommend it to families with little children for safety reasons! It starts from the Montinelle district, from the parking lot 1° Maggio located at the corner of Via Gabriele D'Annunzio and Via 1° Maggio. Then head east into the nature reserve until you reach the church of San Giorgio which overlooks the lake. After the church, continue towards the Rocca until you reach Punta Sasso: here, you can enjoy a 360° view of Lake Garda! From here, a trail leads up to the mountaintop of the Rocca at over 200m in height.
This excursion can be done throughout the year, but it is recommended on clear days to fully enjoy the beauty of Lake Garda.
And after the hike?
A snack and a dip in the lake are ideal! There is a bar at the Museum, otherwise you and your family can eat a good ice cream in Montinelle. After snacktime, head towards Dusano or Pisenze beach. They are both pebble beaches and the water is crystal clear!
Ah! There is one last option: return to Residence Ca del Lago and relax in our swimming pool!
