October is the ideal period to organise an excursion in our territory: temperatures begin to slowly drop and the landscape takes on the first shades of yellow and orange.
Destination Lessinia
Where to go then if not to Lessinia? Lessinia is part of the Venetian Prealps and is characterised by a suggestive landscape composed of plateaus, valleys and mountains.
It is precisely in this area that we recommend an excursion to reach one of the best-known peaks in the province of Verona: the Corno d'Aquilio.
The climb to the Corno d’Aquilio
You start from Passo delle Fittanze in Sega di Ala - 1380m (about an hour's drive from Residence Ca del Lago) and, after parking the car near the War Memorial, follow a slightly uphill path that goes over a grassy hill.
Continuing beyond this rise and, after passing the ruins of the "Casaretta", you then come across a mule track to follow up to the La Cornetta refreshment point (from here, on clearer days, it is possible to admire many peaks in the distance, perhaps already slightly snow-capped).
Moving forward and past Malga Preta di Sopra, the Corno is right in front of you… one last effort and you will have reached the top! A large metal cross stands out on the summit (1545m), an ideal place to rest after the last climb and enjoy a breathtaking view.
Technical details:
The path is approximately 9km long
The difference in altitude going up is 385m
The difference in altitude going down is 390m
Destination Monte Baldo
And for mountain bike lovers? Here is the right solution to fully enjoy your autumn on Lake Garda! Lessinia, but especially Monte Baldo, offer many trails suitable for MTB!
Thanks to the Malcesine cable car, which provides special one-way rides for transporting bicycles at high altitude, it is possible to take several MTB descent routes. Here is a small selection of the best ones!
Departure from Tratto Spino - ride #1
The first route we suggest starts from Tratto Spino and continues through Bocca di Navene, Bocca del Creer, Malga Bes, S. Valentino, S. Giacomo, Festa, Brentonico, Castione, Loppio, Nago, Torbole and finally Malcesine.
Starting from the mountain station of the cable car, you descend along the eastern side for a total of 35 km (50 km if you decide to return to Malcesine by bike from Torbole). The route, which lasts about 4 hours, includes a difference in altitude of 375 meters uphill and 1958 meters downhill, crossing various types of terrain: asphalt, concrete, dirt roads and paths. The landscape is very diverse: you start from the mountains to reach the shores of Lake Garda, passing through typical mountain areas and pasture areas.
Departure from Tratto Spino - ride #2
The second one also starts from Tratto Spino and follows the Forestry Track through Signor, Faigo and Malcesine, but is definitely more challenging.
This is a freeride itinerary that descends from Monte Baldo towards Malcesine, along the western side. The descent begins from the top station of the cable car, first following path 11, then the forest track and the Via dei Prai to San Michele. From here, continue towards Malcesine passing through Faigo and path 4.
The route is 11 km long with a drop in altitude of 1700 metres. Some sections of trail 11 and trail 4 are technically difficult, with rough terrain and loose rocks, making them suitable only for experienced bikers.
Full details on these and other routes are available here.
