Admiring the wonderful view of Lake Garda from Residence Ca 'del Lago can give rise to a certain curiosity about what is on the other side of this magnificent body of water.
So why not spend a different day out in nature right in the village in front of Torri del Benaco: Toscolano Maderno?
AN EXCURSION FOR EVERYONE
Ready, start… go! The best way to organize a day in the Valley of the Paper Mills is to mount a bike, use the convenient ferry that connects Torri del Benaco to Toscolano Maderno and venture into nature.
Once you have reached the valley, you can finally breathe a different, peaceful and relaxing air.
A REFERENCE TO THE PRODUCTIVE PAST OF THIS MAGICAL PLACE
The perpetual flow of water leads us to listen to the sounds of the surrounding nature and brings us back in time. In contrast with many other realities, here now you can breathe an atmosphere of peace and silence but in a not so distant past a flourishing paper-making industry had developed.
To better understand this environment it is worth visiting the ecomuseum of paper di Maina Inferior where it is possible to better understand the phases of production and to venture into the ancient paper world.
A LOOK AT RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
The idea of spending a refreshing day out in the valley upstream the Toscolano torrent fits perfectly with the desire to encourage a new form of tourism that is increasingly attentive to the environment and sustainability.
The paper production method of the past can teach something very precious: you can use natural sources respecting the world around us.
HOW TO GET THERE
Outward journey: first, I would start by booking a bicycle at Residence Ca 'del Lago. The ferry pier from Torri del Benaco to Toscolano Maderno is right at the bottom of Gabriele D’Annunzio road. The ferry runs every day. You will find the schedule in reception (remember to check the time of the last run!).
Once you reach your destination, keep the left following the Giuseppe Zanardelli lakefront. On the right after about 300m you will find the church of Sant'Ercolano.
From here continue right on the SS45bis state road for about 1km.
On your left after the bridge that crosses the Toscolano stream, follow the signs for Gaino - Museo della Carta in Via Valle delle Cartiere. The museum is about 1.5km after. From here the route continues in the valley up to the abandoned hydroelectric power station of Covoli. Here you can decide whether to return from the path just traveled or make the round trip through Gaino along a total of 7 km.
Return: retrace the same route as the one going up to the ferry dock at Maderno.
What are you waiting for? Ask for more information at our reception!
